Fall is an exciting time in Detroit, filled with live music events, fairs, art shows and of course Lions and Tigers games! You can definitely feel a change in the air on game days in downtown Detroit. Tailgaters, sport fans and vendors add to the exciting vibe that is game day. Fans pour in from all over Michigan to explore Detroit and enjoy the game. Whether it is a weekly tradition or special occasion, Detroit fans are very passionate and know how to have a good time! Check out these game day tips on parking, restaurants and more!

Getting to the Game

The Lions are just getting started while the Detroit Tigers are finishing strong, which is creating a lot of anticipation among Detroit sports fans. Getting down to the game is sometimes half of the battle. Plan ahead and leave with enough time to deal with potential Detroit game day traffic. Also, note that if you are in the Detroit area on a game day that there might be added traffic to deal with. Consider carpooling with friends to save on gas and parking fees. Most parking structures and parking lots around Comerica Park and Ford Field have a fee to park, so come prepared with cash! Most parking lots and structures can range from $10.00 to $25.00. Another idea could be to hire a limousine or party bus! This way you could enjoy yourselves and not worry about parking or driving home! Here are some things to consider before calling a chauffeured transportation company:

  • Date of the reservation
  • Time, including pick-up-drop off times (usually the run continuously)
  • Number of passengers
  • Decide on a pick up location to meet the driver after the game

A lot of Detroit fans hit the streets for some tailgating before and during the football or baseball game. Tailgaters get there early to secure prime spots, so plan accordingly. These tailgating sports fans are equipped with drinks, grills, great food, tents, games and more! Just remember that if you are going into the game that you pack up everything first. Some restaurants even run a shuttle (for a low fee) from their location to the stadium. Downtown Detroit’s restaurants have something to offer for every palate, stop in for a bite before the game or come by after for a drink.
