Holiday Tours around Detroit

Holiday Nights in Greenfield VillageIn recent years, Detroit has been regaining popularity in the area of tourism. Sounds weird, right?  In recent headlines, Detroit is typically associated with crime, drug use and some rough times.  However anyone local to the area will be ready and willing to argue against this.  These are the people who can look past all of the bad areas, and focus on the architecture and history of such an amazing city.  Fortunately, because of such history, people all around the world are starting to travel to Detroit! Here are some Detroit holiday tours that have become quite popular.

Holiday Nights in Greenfield Village

Greenfield Village is a historical 80-acre setting that takes you back in time! The Village is filled with historical homes, sights and sounds that transport you to another era located right in Dearborn. Holiday Nights is one of the most popular times of the year for Greenfield Village. Taking place weekends in December, Holiday Nights features live entertainment, costumed presenters, Santa and live reindeer, holiday décor, wagon rides, ice skating fireworks and more! This is a great event to bring the family and enjoy a great time together. Take a look online for ticket pricing and dinner packages as well!

Detroit Princess

Of course most of us have seen this beautiful boat docked right off of the river walk! In a past life, The Detroit Princess was a casino boat docked at Lake Charles, Louisiana (originally named Players Riverboat Casino, in case you were wondering.)  The boat was purchased in 2004, and painstakingly transported to its new location, Detroit.  The boat was completely overhauled and renamed. The boat was officially open in 2005 and is able to hold 1,500 guests. Nearly every Saturday, The Detroit Princess hosts a dinner from 6:00pm to 8:30pm, and a moonlight cruise from 9:30pm to 1:00am. The Detroit Princess is also available for private holiday events and parties as well.

Motor City Brew Tours

Motor City Brew Tours started in 2009 when Steve and Laura Johnson went on a wine tasting tour.  They wanted to have the same experience with the popular breweries found in Detroit, so they started their own tours!  Motor City Brew Tours offers bus tours and even bike tours. Steve and Laura wanted to make their tours fun and social, but also educational. Since June 2009, they have run over 250 events to more than 50 different breweries, distilleries and meaderies. Check out their calendar for their winter tour schedule!

There are so many events and parties that take place during the holiday season, so it can be challenging to schedule something new. Thankfully, most Detroit holiday tours you can enjoy with friends or family and have fun spending time together. Don’t forget some of these tours continue on after the holidays. There are also many local parades and festivals that will pop as well! Tis’ the season to be busy, so don’t forget to take a break and do something fun every once and while!
